Scenes from Scheveningen's North beach

Pier en strand vanaf ZwartePad,
oil on linen - 50 x 60 cm
painted on location - Thurs 8 May 2025

€ 575

A little bit off the beat and path for me, but always fun to be on location here. Beach life is almost in full swing here, but as you know, it really depends on the weather.  As I usually like to be on location before the big crowds show up, thus the not so populated beach.

North beach Scheveningen
oil on linen - 20 x 120 cm
painted on location - Tues 13 May 2025

€ 975

On a nice sunny day I headed out to this location intent on creating this panoramic view of this beach with its vista all the way to Noordwijk Aan Zee. From the area known as Zwartepad I set up my gear rather close to the dunes thus allowing me to create this composition which features the strandpaviljoen Naturel, a detail of a strandbeest from Theo Janssen.

Scheveningen Beach/Blvd 2025 smaller format series.

Schveningen Strand/Blvd  nieuwe series #2 (early evening)
oil on canvas - 20 x 120 cm
painted on location - 3 April 2025

SOLD

This is the second painting made from this series which I decided to undertake for this year. The idea being to start and finish the painting in one plein air session. so far it's working.

Schveningen Strand/Blvd  nieuwe series  #1 (morning)
oil on canvas - 20 x 120 cm
painted on location -  11 March 2025

SOLD

The first painting of this new series I decided to create. I love it when the scenery being painted is covered primarily in mist. Gives the painting a quality of mystery, because not everything is so defined. This leaves room for the viewers imagination to fill in the details!

Scheveningen beach and harbour entrance

Scheveningen vanaf de Zuidelijke havenhoofd
oil on masonite - 23 x 100 cm
painted on location - Wed 19 March 2025

€ 925

Red and white stripped lighthouse at the harbor entrance is always on the North side, the south side has a greenish tinted stripped lighthouse. Learned that on todays painting session from an older fisherman who's been fishing off this location for years!

Rood havenlicht - Noordelijk Havenhoofd
oil on canvas - 30 x 60 cm
painted on location - 26.2.25 en 4.3.25

SOLD

A favorite location for many people living in Scheveningen. Not to mention the many fishermen that fish off of this massive harbor entrance protection wall. Of course like all harbors in Europe and worldwide I think the Northly arm has always a red light and colored in red. I like this location a lot, as I have painted several views off of it.

Scheveningen strand Noord (voorjaar)
oil on canvas - 20 x30 cm
painted on location - Fri 25 Feb 2025

€ 235

Still early in the season, thus not really beach life weather. However was a nice day, with not much wind, thus I decided to give it a go. Will be visiting this location more frequently as I have an audience that has made it clear to me they want to see more paintings from this view point.

Fishing at The North Sea

Vissen op de Noordzee
Oil on canvas - 15 x 30 cm
painted on location - 4 June 2024

SOLD

Off the southern harbor head, close the green harbor light, you can always find, men casting their fishing rods into the waters of The North Sea. It is a good place to go, as you get far enough out from the coastline without having to be on a boat. I have painted on many occasions off the harbor head or as they say in Dutch havenhoofd. usually depicting various views of the Sea. I particularly like the color range in this little painting, warm and cool greens in a delicate balance..

Children with parents, North Beach, Scheveningen

Ouders met Kinderen, Noorderstrand, Scheveningen
oil on canvas - 50 x 175 cm
painted on location and in the studio - June/July 2021

SOL
Commission / Opdracht

I was very happy to get this commission as I love getting out to the beach and working on this subject. Always a challenge to paint on such a large format on location at the beach, however it was possible and what was not possible I made up for it in the studio. Paying customer was happy, person getting the painting as a special gift was happy, and I was happy. What more can a working artist ask for?

Scheveningen Beach and Boulevard summer 2021 & 2015 - original canvas print

Scheveningen Strand / Boulevard zomer 2021,
Ink on canvas - 30 x 200 cm
€ 375

Scheveningen Strand / Boulevard zomer 2015,
Ink on canvas - 30 x 200 cm
€ 375

Here you have the latest painting of this subject which i have been tackling for years now. Believe me it is a struggle to get in all those details, on such a massive size canvas and especially that I make it on location! Thus the elements of the outdoors are either for me or against me. Usually I choose to be on location when they are working for me, (I have no choice really). I'm standing on a wide open space, a pier made of huge cement elements topped with a road wide enough, for emergency vehicles to travel on.
I enjoyed every minute of the making of this painting. Meeting all kinds of friendly nice people, who made several enquiries as to the technique and equipment I use.  I was getting a lot of compliments, thus I knew then that I was on to something good.  For your viewing pleasure 3 close ups.

the big picture and the small picture

Pier,  Schevening #2-2020
oil on canvas - 40 x 50 cm
painted on location - Wed 25 March 2020

SOL

Here I am back at the North Beach, Schevening with the continuation of the Pier series. This time using a traditional landscape format canvas. Still early in the season, and early in the day, thus not many visitors. They are busy building up the beach cafes and other objects after the end of the winter season.

The mangolia stellata, the bumble bee and the lady bug,
oil on canvas - 18 x 24 cm
painted on location - Sat 28 March 202

SOL

In these days we are being asked to stay off the beach when there are too many people, in order to combat the spread of this nasty corona virus. So I will be occasionaly making paintings such as this little intimate scene. Spring is finally in the air, which brings forth all kinds of little creatures, such as the two shown in this painting. In a Universe of their own, these flowers florish, with the help Natures tiny winged creaatures.
