The whispering wave.

The whispering wave.
oil on canvas - 50 x 120 cm
painted on location - Tues  18 Jan 2022

€ 1650

I love painting on these misty days, when the fog is so thick, visibility is reduced just to your immediate surroundings. The atmosphere becomes at once mysterious and still, in a positive way, mind you. That I believe is due to the light. Often one gets in a peaceful mood, experiencing a deep sense of tranquility.  Luckily for me on this day there was hardly no wind to speak about, thus I took advantage of that, and after I finished Seascape #3, I dashed back to my auto, to get this 50x120cm canvas. Thus creating two paintings in one paint out session.

The Hague Sailing Club

HKZV, Den Haag
oil on canvas - 60 x 90 cm
painted on location - Thurs 29 July 2021

SOLD

A portrait of this sailing clubhouse for me is always fun to do. I love that color, Ultramarine (blue), especially when the Sun is hitting it, shadows get cast from the roof and open spaces. Then in combination with the surrounding colors, the yellow of the beach club house behind it, the various colors of the 'cats', just in general a colorful scenery, wouldn't you agree.

Surfs Up at South Beach

Zuiderstrand DH
oil on canvas - 40 x 120 cm
painted on location - Tues 31 Aug. 2021

SOLD

Again decided to paint a view of the whole of Zuiderstrand, the real beach of The Hague. On the horizon you can see a smoke stak from one of the many oil refineries located at the harbor entrance to Rotterdam. Wild clouds, strong waves, and lots of Sun make this scenery enjoyable to digest, at least that's my thought.

Parents and children at the beach #3

Ouders en kindren op het strand #3
oil on canvas - 40 x 120 cm
painted on location - Tues 4 Aug 2020

SOLD

This subject seems to be developing into a series. I love the fun aspect of this subject. Kids having the time of their lifes. They feel safe, Mom or Dad is always nearby, and they make friendss instantly. Often they come and ask what am I doing. Or one of the parents or gaurdians bring a child nearby to have a look and explain what I am doing. Furthermore in thesse troubling times I feel this is an image that can bring delight and happiness intoyour household

Freedom

Vrijheid
oil on linen - 20 x 115 cm
painted on location - Wednesday 15 May 2019

SOLD

Got to the beach this morning, and nothing dramatic going on. Situation was very peaceful, the warmth of the Sun was good to feel, on what little exposed skin I had meeting the Sun's rays. It is still rather cold, thus the winter jacket is still in use. Thus I thought, why not just paint an image that brings across this feeling of tranquility and freedom, which I felt in that moment, thus this work was created.... Below a shot of the work in progress taken by a passer by, glad she shared it with me.

The Quiet Beach awakens

Het Stillestrand wordt wakker
oil on linen - 90 x 150 cm
painted on location - Fri. 22 March 2019

SOLD

The cold Winter season has ended, slowly the Spring begins to usher in a lusher palette of colour, as Nature takes delight in the warmth and extra sunlight. It is not too uncommon to come across such a view of this beach, especially in the early morning hours. The fog slowly lifting, during the time whilst I was creating this painting.  I worked with a hasty pace, getting on the linen as much information as possible, by the time I had decided to put my signature on this piece, the sky was entirely blue!   Below a close ups for your viewing pleasure.

The Entrance is free

de toegang is gratis,
oil on canvas - 50 x 70 cm
painted on location - Thurs. 31 Jan 2019

SOLD

Here I have decided to revisit a theme that has inspired me for several years now, 'paths to the Sea'. A misty damp winters day, very little wind, thus ideal circumstances to be on location. Sometimes we need a break, time to reflect, to think things over. Well where better place to go than on such a natural solitary beach, were all you are confronted is the Sea, calm and respective of your mood.  You won't be disturbed by crowds of people, only the odd dog with her owner might pass you by.  Plenty of room to move about, both physically and psychologically. All this and more, and the entrance is for free!

even on a gloomy winters day

zelfs op een sombere winterdag
oil on canvas - 25 x 150 cm
painted on location/and in studio - Dec.2017/Jan 2018

SOLD

You know I truly believe in the saying, "there is beauty all around, just a matter of seeing it". For me it is in the details that one must pay attention, in order to see that beauty. Let me explain, in regards to this art work.  Starting with the rhythmic action of the rolling waves, bathed in all the shades that an emerald green light has to offer. Or look to that warm glow through the mist, on the horizon.  Casting light on objects and buildings mysteriously coming and going, like one might recall, in an almost forgotten distant dream. Is it any wonder that while I was working on this painting on location the professional and amateur photographers alike were to be spotted, clicking away. capturing the moods of this soft and peaceful morning at Scheveningen Boulevard.   Yes all this and more can be found, even on a gloomy winters day.

First time for il pittore on the small island Vlieland,  really loved it their! I'm no stranger to small islands, have spent many warm days, working and painting on the tiny island Panarea, off the coast of Sicily,  a real jewel of the Mediterranean Sea. But Vlieland is on the North Sea, and to experience it with extreme warm weather is truly a blessing! I made a total of 5 paintings, next posting will show the other 2.  This theme of children at the beach is attractive to me at this time, hope you are not getting bored with these postings. Your feedback is always welcome!

Scheveningen Beach in a winters fairy tale

Scheveningen strand en boulevard als een Sprookje
oil on canvas - 30 x 150 cm
painted - Sun 12/Mon 13 Feb 2017

SOLD

What's there to say, but that I am so grateful that we finally had a downfall of that fluffy white stuff here on the coast of Holland! Everybody was excitingly happy, especially the little ones. And me I was really happy that i had the opportunity to get on location, and re work a painting that I made in December 2015 of this scenery! Thus the composition was already complete when I started on this painting.  You know it's funny, how some days one could paint better than on other days! I guess it is the same with anything one does. For me this was a day were the juice was flowing, fast and powerful, and what resulted is what you see. By the comments people were making as they stopped to have a look, and there were many people, as it was a soft winters sunshiny day, I felt I had accomplished a painting which will give much pleasure to the viewer. And that my dear friends, is a gift, from The Creator to me and from my hands to you. Here below a fine picture of me working on this painting taken by Maurice Haak, from This is The Hague, Tourist Information Centre.

Blind Faith series # 1,2 & 3

Blind Vetrouw series #1,
oil on canvas - 70 x 90 cm
painted on location - Tues 7 April 2015
SOLD

You know the saying, 'if they through lemons at you, make lemon juice'  That is exactly what I am doing  in this series! The weather is getting warmer, but the Sea temperature is still extremely cold, so this is what happens. You get this thick mist hanging around for hours. It does make for a rather atmospheric painting. It looks easy enough to do, but belief me, to represent depth in these scenes does take some trickery. And that is were experience comes in to do the job that needs to be done.  After working on the large painting, I attempted a smaller panoramic format, which is shown here below.

Blind Vetrouw series #2,
oil on canvas - 20 x 50 cm
painted on location - Tues 7 April 2015
SOLD

Tranquillity and peace, is what this and the other works from this series offers you.  Room to allow you to think things over, make that important decision, without visual obstruction. Life in a crowded country like Holland does require time out, every now and then. Fixing your eyes on one of these paintings will slow your thoughts down, allow your mind to focus and meditate!

Blind Vetrouw series #3,
oil on canvas - 30 x 150 cm
painted on location - Fri 10 April 2015

Here I found myself at my favourite stretch of beach, hoping for the Sun to break through. Same as hundreds of other Netherlanders who payed a visit to Zuiderstrand that day. Well a few hours later that did happen, but in the meantime am glad I made the decision to paint this view of paal 36, just in front of beach cafe, De Fuut. I would like to remind you of that saying I happened to come upon not long ago by Robert Henri....'Why do we love the Sea. It is because it has some potent power to make us think things we like to think.' Now, I tell you, is that not enough reason, to make that walk on the beach! I certainly am glad I got the sea almost at my door step, as am sure are thousands of other people living near the coast here in The Lowlands.
