The North Sea, (gentle rolling waves). #1

oil on canvas,
40 x 120 cm, ( 16 x 47 inches)
painted on location, Wed. 10 October 2007

SOLD

Here I present to you a large format work of what apparently seems to be an easy subject. Yeah, right! When is the last time you stood in front of the sea with an easel and oil paints? To begin with, the light is constantly changing, thus the reflections on the water are never quite the same. Hues and values shifting like the frames of a motion picture. The waves present yet another challenge, that is one of somehow arresting continual motion. This painting went through many phases before I found I had anything worth permanetly fixing. The title of this work has a number one attached, this means I plan to tackle this subject a few more times.

A great idea to make a series, then you can focus on deepening this trademark subject of yours. You know these are my favorites because they are contemplative and induce contemplation. U better get some warm clothes.
