HKZV 2 times

HKZV clubhouse, Den Haag
oil on canvas - 18 x 24 cm
painted on location - Sat 17 Aug 2019

Just a little painting, but what a big view! The high winds recently have been blowing sand more and more to the edge of Westduinpark, creating this situation which I find absolutely fantastic to paint. the slopes gently roll down and eventually flatten out and join the waters crust of the North Sea. As is evident in the painting below.

Without my 3 meter parasol laying on its side protecting me and my gear from the wind this painting would not have been possible to create. A small sacrifice for me, but oh look at those cloud formations, what a joy yet at the same time a challenge to get down with paint on a canvas. A lot is going on in this scene, s worth taking your time to have a closer look.

The Hofvijver, The Hague, #3 - Repainted

De Hofvijver, DH #3
oil on canvas - 30 x 120 cm
painted on location - 25 July & 8 Aug 2019

SOLD

On the hottest day of the year, I was on location re-working this painting which I had originally made in the Fall of 2018, (see picture below).  I was quite concerned with the darkness of the shadowed area of the buildings, thus decided it needed to be lightened up, so that's exactly what has happened. If you notice closely I have also created greater depth in the painting, by making the distant buildings hazier and les foilage on the trees both center and on the right side. Also had fun painting in the seagulls and the two white swans in front of the floating island.

Private collection, The Hague (original painting)

On the occasion of the 10 years anniversary of this establishment a weekend festival was organised by the owner and staff. I was invited to show my paintings at a small market on the terras, and decided to make this painting of such a unique situation!  This painting was literally sold shortly after completion, thus decided to make the image available as a print on canvas.

     Moeder met kind op strand #3,  oil on canvasboard - 24 x 60 cm,  painted 26 July 2019,  € 235

On a very hot sunny day I decided to make this fun series of paintings at the beach. Usually am working very large scale and bringing the big picture of the beach with the figures occupying not so much space. Here the figures are central, thus the focal point.

South Beach of The Hague is Hot

Zuiderstrand, DH op een warme zomersdag
oil on linen - 40 x 175 cm
painted on location - 23 July 2019

SOLD

Yes ladies and gentlemen, rarely does the temperature go above 32 Celsius here in The Lowlands. So when it does, then you can be assured that the beaches will be full. For me the best time to enjoy our spacious beaches are early in the morning. When the Sun is  warming things up, and still tolerable. Hey, but that's only my modest opinion. Certainly for painting this view, mornings are the best.

A summer's day with nice clouds

Mooie volken op een zomers dag,
oil on canvas - 50 x 150 cm
painted on location - Thurs 18 July 2019

SOL

An early morning view of what will turn out to be a busy day here at the beach in The Hague. Made to order, exactly what the customer wanted.
1. Not too many people.
2. the big picture of Zuiderstrand, thus the birds eye view. (it amazes me, how i manage to do this, I swear my feet are on the ground, when I painted this, yet it looks like it was made from higher up, a mystery!)
3.a lot of  typical Dutch clouds in a clear blue sky,  (this giving the impression of movement to the painting, which ultimately makes it interesting.)
