Again I found myself attracted to this harbour. I rather enjoy the challenge of having to simplify and leave out as much detail as possible in order to make this view visually digestible to the human eye. This then results in creating a certain mood which, of course is subjective to the viewer.

Here I have decided to paint the movement of the waves on such a beautiful sunny day, only still very cold but with little wind it was manageable to be on location. The panels represent what it must look like when you are out on the Sea. even though I painted these at the waters edge, on a beach. These works are ready to hang, and they don't need a frame.

A Symphony of color finds Scheveningen # 2 & 3

Kleurrijk gezicht op de Binnen Haven
oil on canvas - 20 x 40 cm
painted on location - Mon 9 Feb 2015
SOLD

A rather free interpretation of this scenery, but really this array of colour does play in this quaint harbour, that we are fortunate to have here in The Hague. You wouldn't know it, but it is a very cold winters day, and believe me, standing for hours at the easel getting this painting done does chill ones bones, no matter how well you are clothed.

Het hektrawler SCH 123,

painted on location - Tues. 10 Feb 2015, (Finished in studio Thurs 12th)

I had to work as fast as possible in order to get all those details which are characteristic of this wonderful working vessel. I will surely make more paintings from this fleet of ships. I find they add so much colour and warmth to this otherwise rather boring looking harbour. It was a pleasure to paint this scene and you can be sure you will be seeing more!
